Culture Advantage ONSITE Medical Interpreter Training

We have two programs to meet your needs:

1. An ONSITE-ONLINE Blended Program to reduce cost and travel time for your employeers.

A blended-training program (online and on-site) designed to meet the needs of full-time professionals with flexibility.  We bring the program to your location.

The program is intended for community interpreters with no prior formal training in medical interpreting, for non-clinical employees who are called upon to interpret, or for healthcare providers with bilingual skills.

2. A 5-day Comprehensive ONSITE Program. We bring the course to your location.

Our Blended Program includes:

Online Curriculum: 24 Contact Hours


For community workers with no formal training in medical interpreting, pre-requisites for the program:
  • Accelerated Basic Anatomy and Medical Terminology: 20 contact hours online.
  • Foundations of Medical Interpreting: 4 Hours

For healthcare professionals: Our courses are approved for continuing education contact hours for RNs and LPNs by the Kansas State Board of Nursing. For all other participants, a certificate of completion will be awarded.

Onsite Curriculum: 20 Contact Hours (May be customized to meet your organizational goals, at no additional charge.)

The program prepares the healthcare professional with knowledge and skills to assume a leadership, or advocacy position for linguistic competency in their department or organization.

Day 1  (7 Contact Hours): Any health care provider may attend.
1. Imperatives for cultural and linguistic competency
2. Language Access and CLAS Standards
3. Developing cultural sensitivity and awareness
4. Background theory in Transcultural Nursing
5. Culturally-based assessment skills
6. Working with interpreters: Expectations and standards; role-play

Day 2 (7 Contact Hours) : For Community and Health Care Provider-Interpreters
1. Cross-cultural Communication
2. Culturally diverse health beliefs, values, and practices
3. Medical Interpreting Concepts and application based on IMIA Standards
4. Patient interview and assessment: Role-play communication triad
Day 3: Skills Coaching and Assessments (6 Contact Hours)
Review medical interpreting concepts.
Peer assessment and coaching of performance based on the IMIA standards, ethics, and roles for interpreters.
The participant will complete a plan for professional development based on the recommendations.
